Claudia Brücken, this now

‘The Lost are Found’

October 23, 2012

Claudia’s new album, The Lost are Found, is ready. She has worked with famed producer Stephen Hague (New Order, Pet Shop Boys, OMD, Robbie Robertson) on an exhilarating collection of intensely atmospheric songs by other people. These ‘other people’ are some of the favourite writers and artists of both Claudia and Stephen, expressing their particular obsession with the history of the pop song. Some might say it is definitely up there with the classic albums Claudia has been involved with from Propaganda’s A Secret Wish to Onetwo’s Instead. The album is both a celebration of the mood, majesty and mystery of a great pop song, and also a journey along an imaginary coast line of an imaginary country, a soundtrack to a view out to sea, and the thoughts of what lies ahead.

Singer and performer Brücken with producer and arranger Hague cover unexpected songs by the very well known – Bowie, the Band, Bee Gees, Electric Light Orchestra – songs she was always destined to sing – Pet Shop Boys, Julee Cruise – and songs by the less well known that should be well known – Dubstar, Lilac Time and Stina Nordenstam – and she sings them as though they are a reflection of her own views and voice, and an inspiring, revealing part of her own story. The Lost are Found, is a brilliant anthology of melancholy pop sung by one of pop’s most ingenious interpreters and produced by one of the great pop producers.

The ideal format, in an ideal world, for a collection of great pop songs written between the 1960s and the 1990s, selected, recorded and performed with love and great attention to detail, is of course vinyl. The Lost are Found, is, amongst many other things, a celebration of the classic vinyl album, the sequenced two sided record made up of a dream series of songs that work apart in their own world, but also together, as an invented, intensely atmospheric story. This isn’t to say that it doesn’t sound fantastic on CD, but it has to be said, the album is very much at home on vinyl, for those still in love with the ritual of turning a record over at the end of side one.

We are making The Lost are Found available on record in a limited edition of 500. The first 200 of these will be individually numbered and signed for extra specialness by Claudia Brücken and Stephen Hague and be available to buy only through our web site.
